On our way

I completed my previous project (Portal). It is now off to the quilter (thanks Pat)! I have started another project. It's a simple free pattern from FatQuarter Shop, called Charm Pack Cherry Quilt. I am using 2 Fig and Plum printed charm packs and 2 different solids (pattern calls for 1 solid so hopefully it looks scrappy and not ruined)....we shall see.

For the win

Made strides on the work in progress. I finally finished the quilt top. It looks a little plain to me, but it turned out exactly as I pictured in my head. My binding strips have been cut, now all I have to do is piece the backing. I chose a light blue flannel. That flannel back should make it nice an cozy. I think I will call it Portal, it kind of reminds me of a doorway.

Snow Day

Here in Knoxville we are not usually blessed with very many snow days. Well, barely any that really carry any significance anyway. On Tuesday morning with reports of light dusting up to 1 inch, we were not prepared for what we received.
It started to snow around 9:20 am, next thing you know we hear reports of nearby counties closing schools.  And then it happened...Knox Co reported they were closing schools at 11:45. As you can imagine, all HELL broke lose. People were racing to get their kids, cars were running off the roads, people were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.... panic began to start, followed by reports of cannibalism......Wait, WHAT?
Ok, ok not all those things actually happened, but they did actually close schools, there was traffic and reports of several wrecks!  However, it was slightly less exciting from my vantage point.  I worked until 12:30 pm, that's when we closed the office. I left work, then picked up the kids, some lunch and came home to snuggle with my sweetie. All the while...it continued to snow. It was peaceful, serene and beautiful.
Today, work didn't open til 10, but thanks to freezing temps and icy roads this girl stayed snugly in her PJ's.
Can't say it was a particularly productive day on the sewing front. It's 8pm and I've just sewn my first two seams in over a week. Lol
Gotta prep for the KMQG sew-in on Saturday. I'd like to have some progress made. That way I can actually have something to work on. Wish me luck!

Quilt Resolutions

At the January KMQG meeting members were asked to write 5 quilting/sewing resolutions. Our purpose... open in December and see which items were high enough in priority to actually become finished projects/events and which are still UFO's or still on the To Do List!

Here is my list:
1. Finish my weekender
2. Visit Spool in Chattanooga Tn and   make something with a purchase from the trip
3. Try paper piecing (I have never yet attempted it)
4. Finish at least two quilts
5. Save $ in order to attend QuiltCon.

Below are some inspiration photo's that I found online. Sorry I don't have photo creds.

HST continues

It has been slow goin, but I have made some progress. My inspiration comes from a pattern called Diamond Rings. However, the layout in the following picture may be all I use in my quilt top. I am thinking of doing the remainder in solids for a very minimal effect. I also thought about having the final layout flipped, meaning this section of the quilt top would flow top to bottom instead of side to side (which is how it appears on my sewing table).

Hopefully sometime soon I'll have an end result. BTW Happy 2014

New HST Project

I guess you can say I am inspired!!! I am starting a new project. I'm not 100% sure about my exact direction, but I do plan on using HST (Half Square Triangles). Picked out a charm pack from the stash and plan to also add some Kona Snow. Let's hope I finish fast. I tend to lose interest quickly. Wish me luck

Completed Project

Hopefully over the next few days I will be completing my first project for 2013. Can you believe it? It's already October and I have not finished one thing to completion. Truth be told, I have only worked on three projects the entire year. My completed (or soon to be completed) project will be my Round Robin quilt top. This was a fun interactive project with members of KMQG. We started with a quilt block and hosted rounds where various guild members worked on each others quilts. We supplied approx 5 yards of fabric and set guidelines to determine if others could add their own fabric or not. It went several months and for me was completely....stressful.
The fear of working with someone else's fabric struck a fear in me which I didn't know existed. However, I made it through and was actually very impressed with the results. I am in the process of starting to bind the quilt. It was quilted by my wonderful friend Pat Pike.

 Photo's soon!
