I was not sure I would like the color combo I chose for this quilt, and BOY was I RIGHT! I started with two charm packs (Fig and Plum, I think) and I decided to use two solids. Several prints had this pretty purple, so I went with that and I also went with white. I like the style of the pattern and I like the blocks individually, but combined it's a nightmare. That maroon in the cp, I'm not sure who thought it was a good combo.

This one is a definite give away or donation quilt.

It is now off to the quilter (thanks Pat)! I have started another project. It's a simple free pattern from FatQuarter Shop, called Charm Pack Cherry Quilt. I am using 2 Fig and Plum printed charm packs and 2 different solids (pattern calls for 1 solid so hopefully it looks scrappy and not ruined)....we shall see.

I finally finished the quilt top. It looks a little plain to me, but it turned out exactly as I pictured in my head. My binding strips have been cut, now all I have to do is piece the backing. I chose a light blue flannel. That flannel back should make it nice an cozy. I think I will call it Portal, it kind of reminds me of a doorway.

Here in Knoxville we are not usually blessed with very many snow days. Well, barely any that really carry any significance anyway. On Tuesday morning with reports of light dusting up to 1 inch, we were not prepared for what we received.

It started to snow around 9:20 am, next thing you know we hear reports of nearby counties closing schools. And then it happened...Knox Co reported they were closing schools at 11:45. As you can imagine, all HELL broke lose. People were racing to get their kids, cars were running off the roads, people were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.... panic began to start, followed by reports of cannibalism......Wait, WHAT?

Ok, ok not all those things actually happened, but they did actually close schools, there was traffic and reports of several wrecks! However, it was slightly less exciting from my vantage point. I worked until 12:30 pm, that's when we closed the office. I left work, then picked up the kids, some lunch and came home to snuggle with my sweetie. All the while...it continued to snow. It was peaceful, serene and beautiful.

Today, work didn't open til 10, but thanks to freezing temps and icy roads this girl stayed snugly in her PJ's.
Can't say it was a particularly productive day on the sewing front. It's 8pm and I've just sewn my first two seams in over a week. Lol

Gotta prep for the KMQG sew-in on Saturday. I'd like to have some progress made. That way I can actually have something to work on. Wish me luck!

Our purpose... open in December and see which items were high enough in priority to actually become finished projects/events and which are still UFO's or still on the To Do List!

Here is my list:
1. Finish my weekender
2. Visit Spool in Chattanooga Tn and make something with a purchase from the trip
3. Try paper piecing (I have never yet attempted it)
4. Finish at least two quilts
5. Save $ in order to attend QuiltCon.

Below are some inspiration photo's that I found online. Sorry I don't have photo creds.

My inspiration comes from a pattern called Diamond Rings. However, the layout in the following picture may be all I use in my quilt top. I am thinking of doing the remainder in solids for a very minimal effect. I also thought about having the final layout flipped, meaning this section of the quilt top would flow top to bottom instead of side to side (which is how it appears on my sewing table).

Hopefully sometime soon I'll have an end result. BTW Happy 2014

I am starting a new project. I'm not 100% sure about my exact direction, but I do plan on using HST (Half Square Triangles). Picked out a charm pack from the stash and plan to also add some Kona Snow. Let's hope I finish fast. I tend to lose interest quickly. Wish me luck

Can you believe it? It's already October and I have not finished one thing to completion. Truth be told, I have only worked on three projects the entire year. My completed (or soon to be completed) project will be my Round Robin quilt top. This was a fun interactive project with members of KMQG. We started with a quilt block and hosted rounds where various guild members worked on each others quilts. We supplied approx 5 yards of fabric and set guidelines to determine if others could add their own fabric or not. It went several months and for me was completely....stressful.
The fear of working with someone else's fabric struck a fear in me which I didn't know existed. However, I made it through and was actually very impressed with the results. I am in the process of starting to bind the quilt. It was quilted by my wonderful friend Pat Pike.
Participate in several yearly? What's your favorite? I don't join in many swaps, but one has got me captivated. I am a sucker for totes, pouches, purses, etc. The PLPS (Pretty Little Pouch Swap) found on Flickr currently in its 6th round, I have truly enjoyed so much.
I am not at all interested in what I see out there in most swaps, I say most becuase I obviously havent seen them all. Some swaps are too traditional, others swap items too often. Im not interested in having a swap event every month, even every other month, to me that would get old FAST! However I love that almost everyone in this swap is very MODERN and very creative. I love the mosaics, the fabric, and the time that seems to be put into the timing of the swap as well as the members of the group and their abilities.
Dont be afraid if you are new to sewing. They have different skill levels to choose from so that you dont have to feel intimidated with the strong skills of other sewers. It is a really fun swap, so if you haven't checked it out before...do so. Sew What if you are a beginner, everyone has to start somewhere. Wow, it's been a while since I updated my blog. I want to do better. I want to be one of those that use this means of connection daily...however I am not that good at keeping to habits. Nope 2013 will not bring any resolutions to blog daily, but I can say that I do want to put a good solid effort to it...along with some other things. I hope that 2013 has lots of good things in store for not only me, but for all my family, friends and social network connections. Sew what If I cannot stick to a solid resolution, 2013 will come regardless of whether I do so or not. Goodbye 2012, all in all you were a good year! Sew what's the special occassion one might ask? This weekend close to one year from the date I finally finished my T shirt quilt. Started it in June 2011 and I finally put the binding on it July 1, 2012. Not sure what took me so long, poor thing has been pieced for so long, I finally quilted it earlier this year. I wanted it to have a scrappy look and finally its done.
I am happy that I have chosen a hobby and stuck with it so long. For all that know me well, know this is a great achievement. Along the way I have learned alot, and have met many of who I believe will be LIFELONG friends! Sew what if it has taken me more than a year, I have learned the gradification is in the trip not in the destination. Til next time.

I brought all three of my machines out of my sewing room and invaded the dining room as if I was a alien exploring a new planet. I also setup shop with the laptop and all of my unfinished projects around me. I still had room for the one machine that remained in my sewing area as well as enough room for two friends...since it was such a rainy day, I didnt actually invite the friends but they were there in spirit.....& on facebook cheering me on. Well, to keep things short and sweet, I just dropped in to say Hello....Sew what If I spent the entire day inside due to rain....keep me focused and working on my many unfinished projects. Of course I have gone out on a limb and started working on my T shirt quilt did I say on my own...without further instruction which is kinda like my work self but not my home self. However...In my defense...I want to finish this thing so I can move onto other projects so I must keep going...forward progress...isnt that what it's all about? Thats my excuse, anyways. So what if I am the only person who doesnt listen to the teacher...unless I screw up something ROYAL, I will be the head of the class..or at least ahead of the class.
I am very excited. So far I have 4 squares cut and interfaced. The first T shirt quilt will be a Christian theme with shirts I plucked from thrift stores around town...one is special which belonged to my honee. I hope to share more pics soon. Sew what if I cannot wear them anymore, at least they will keep me comfy warm while watchin the boob tube!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02878882866244354446noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5004959416995996227.post-18762488060883316762011-05-29T18:33:00.000-04:002011-05-29T18:33:18.041-04:00Memorial Day Weekend....no sew so farMemorial Day weekend so far as been a no sew zone. Friday night we started moving stuff out of the music room. On Saturday morning, what was left got moved into the living room and our bedroom. We started the day off right...construction. We removed a portion of the plaster ceiling in the room and purchased material to create a drop ceiling out of drywall. I learned alot. Within that same day we had the ceiling up, tape and compound filling the spaces between the drywall and over the nail holes. On Sunday morning, Josh got up early and added another coat. Next step, let it dry....sand...and paint. We are going to also paint the room while we have all of the stuff out of it. Next it will be turned into a bedroom for Dominic. I think he is excited to get his own room...We hope that will stop some of the bickering between him and his younger brother. Sew what If I havent been able to sew as single item this weekend, If it leads to one less brotherly fight its worth it.....right? Right? Come one tell me I am right. LOL Happy Memorial Day.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02878882866244354446noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5004959416995996227.post-62382562582840760712011-05-06T10:40:00.000-04:002011-05-06T10:40:59.259-04:00DemoToday May the 6th...what a glorious day for DEMO...and I am not talking about a demonstration of my latest crafy creation. I am referring to our bathroom. Today bathfitters has arrived to install our new tub and shower...EXCITEMENT that is until I had to actually go get the cashiers check (LOL). We are def paying for convienience of a one day job as well as the expertise of a specialist, however with us having only one bathroom in the house...what choice do we have? During the demo, I am planning to try to enjoy my day as the worries of the home improvement project now falls on anothers shoulders...ahh bliss. {record scratch} ......back to reality!

Sew what if Im confined to my sewing room & cannot go pee for the next 6-7 hours without having to drive a few blocks to the nearest fast food restauraunt. I should still be able to get a little sewing done since I was able to be off work for the day...thanks Bathfitters!
